World Population Day 2017 – Note from Dr. Avantika Sharma
11th July, World Population Day was established by United Nations to seek focus and attention on the urgency and importance of population issues……….. Family planning being one of them.
Around the world millions of women who want to avoid pregnancy are not using safe and effective family planning methods. The reason can be lack of knowledge, lack of access to information, lack of support from their parteners and families, social taboos etc.
Let us, on this day aim at increasing people’s awareness on family planning and thereby on related issues like women empowerment, poverty and maternal health etc.
On this day 11th July 2017 three lakh doctors of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and thirty seven thousand doctors of FOGSI (Federation of Obestetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India) have joined hands to create awareness about contraceptive measures in a bid to empower women with choices available and help them to make the right choice for themselves.
